This Baked Cheesy Tortellini recipe is the ultimate baked pasta dish.  It’s everything you want in a baked pasta- cheese-filled tortellini, Italian sausage, a thick and rich three cheese tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese stirred in and ricotta and Parmesan dolloped on top, then baked until hot and bubbly.  As if that’s not enough, there’s only 10 minutes of prep time needed to get this comfort food casserole oven-ready.  Sprinkling with some fresh basil before serving is a quick way to add more flavor and color.  Make Baked Cheesy Tortellini on a weeknight or anytime you need some feel-good food.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup part skim ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 pound Italian pork sausage, casings removed
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) Prego® Chunky Tomato & Three Cheese Italian Sauce
  • 20 ounces refrigerated cheese tortellini
  • 1/2 cup shredded part skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons thin strips fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  • Step 1

    Heat the oven to 350°F.  Stir the ricotta and Parmesan cheeses in a bowl.  Season with salt and cracked black pepper.

  • Step 2

    Heat a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat.  Add the sausage and cook until well browned, stirring often to separate meat.  Pour off any fat.

  • Step 3

    Stir the sauce, tortellini, mozzarella and water in the skillet.  Transfer to a 2-quart casserole.  Top with spoonfuls of the ricotta mixture.  Cover the casserole.

  • Step 4

    Bake for 25 minutes or until hot.  Remove from the oven and let stand for 5 minutes.  Top with the basil before serving.
